Four Additional Mt. Vernon Schools Named U.S. News & World Report Best Schools for 2026–2027

ALL MV schools named Best School by US News

Mt. Vernon School Corporation (MVCSC) is proud to announce that McCordsville Elementary (MES), Fortville Elementary (FES), and Mt. Comfort Elementary (MCE) have been ranked a “US News Best Elementary” for 2026-2027. Mt. Vernon Middle School (MVMS) was also ranked a “US News Best Middle School” for 2026-2027. With Mt. Vernon High School already named a “U.S. News Best High School,” every Mt. Vernon school operating during the years evaluated has now earned U.S. News recognition. Mt. Vernon Intermediate School is not included because the rankings use data from before it opened.

These recognitions highlight the dedication of Mt. Vernon’s educators, staff, students, and families in creating learning environments that support student achievement and success. With four additional schools receiving this distinction, MVCSC continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities for students at every stage of their academic journey.

U.S. News rankings evaluated various data from the school years 2021-2022 through 2024-2025. Mt. Vernon Intermediate School is not included in the rankings because it was not open during the years covered by the data.

Mt. Vernon Middle School ranked 160th among Indiana public middle schools evaluated by U.S. News & World Report. “Our staff shares a collective commitment to connecting with students and families and working as a team to maximize learning for all students,” shared the principal of MVMS, Dr. Lori Katz. “We are proud of this achievement, and even more proud of the collaborative culture that made it possible.” Mt. Vernon Middle School earned an overall score of 69.01 out of 100. In key measures of middle school readiness, MVMS ranked out of 1,423 Indiana schools:

  • 166th in Reading Proficiency
  • 144th in Math Proficiency

MES, FES, and MCE all ranked in the top 15-28% of elementary schools evaluated by U.S. News & World Report. Congratulations to our students, staff, and families on these well-earned honors. These achievements are a source of pride for our schools and the entire Mt. Vernon community.
